Debian : Running in software rendering mode

Issue : Running in software rendering mode
Platform: Debian “Jessie”
VM:vmware player
Host system: Windows 8.1

1) Add “contrib” and “non-free” components to /etc/apt/sources.list, for example:
# Debian 8 “Jessie”
deb http://http.debian.net/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
Update the list of available packages:
# apt-get update
2 (Install the firmware-linux-nonfree, libgl1-mesa-dri and xserver-xorg-video-ati packages:
# apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-video-ati
Restart your system to load GPU device firmware.

Additionally you may need to enable 3d acceleration in VMware Workstation . This can be found under vm settings> display
