HTML5 and Linux

After coding a website with HTML5 audio. I found that linux version would not recognize the audio mp3 track. Using debug mode , I receive unable to decode media. huh..
I decided to also include .ogg and linux was happy to play this without any error. The strange part is that the windows version of Firefox played the mp3 without any error. This also included Mac OS which worked well.
