SQL: FullText Backup failure

Error:

failed with the following error: “The backup of full-text catalog ‘sampledb’ is not permitted because
it is not online. Check errorlog file for the reason that full-text catalog became offline and bring it
online. Or BACKUP can be performed by using the FILEGROUP or FILE clauses to restrict the selection to
include only online data.
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.”. Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query,
“ResultSet” property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established
correctly.

 

*Fix if you not using Fulltext search *

1)Put the database into single user mode.
2)Detach the database. But before clicking OK for the detach, UNCHECK the Keep full text
catalogs.
3)Reattach the database

 

*If you are using full text search then i I would recommend backing up the mdf and ldf files instead of doing as standard backup. There are other ways to perform this task and we are open to recommendations. Catch up on Twitter @signofthegrind
